Definition of "BIOS" |
[Basic Input/Output system], firmware that is permanently stored in the memory on the computer. The BIOS ROM first performs test routines when a system is switched on. The BIOS then searches for and loads the operating system from a hard disk, floppy disk, CD ROM or some other peripheral device. / Basic Input/ Output System, / Basic Input/Output System is a de facto standard defining a firmware interface. The name originated from the Basic Input/Output System used in the CP/M operating system in 1975.
