Definition of "Bypass Diode" |
A diode connected across one or more solar cells in a photovoltaic module such that the diode will conduct if the cell(s) become reverse biased. [UL 1703] Alternatively, diode connected anti-parallel across a part of the solar cells of a Photovoltaic module. It protects these solar cells from thermal destruction in case of total or partial shading of individual solar cells while other cells are exposed to full light. / A diode connected across a circuit or module such that the diode will conduct if the circuit become reverse biased. / A diode connected across one or more solar cells in a photovoltaic module such that the diode will conduct if the cell become reverse biased. Alternatively, diode connected anti parallel across a part of the solar cells of a Photovoltaic module. It protects these solar cells from thermal destruction in case of total or partial shading of individual solar cells while other cells are exposed to full light. / One way to minimize the effect shading has on a single module in a series string, is to use bypass diodes in the junction box. Bypass diode allow current to pass around shaded cells and thereby reduce the voltage losses through the module. / Idempotent law is the property of certain operations in mathematics and computer science, that can be applied multiple times without changing the result beyond the initial application. The concept of idempotence arises in a number of places in abstract algebra in particular, in the theory of projectors and closure operators and functional programming in which it is connected to the property of referential transparency. |
