Definition of "Carbon Equivalent" |
Carbon Equivalent is an empirical value in weight percent, relating the combined effects of different alloying elements used in the making of carbon steels to an equivalent amount of carbon. This value can be calculated using a mathematical equation. By varying the amount of carbon and other alloying elements in the steel, the desired strength levels can be achieved by proper heat treatment. |
