Definition of "Duct" |
A closed passageway formed underground or in a structure and intended to receive one or more cables which may be drawn in. / In interfacility cabling, a conduit, which may be direct-earth buried or encased in concrete, used to enclose communications or power cables. / Duct are used in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning to deliver and remove air. These needed airflows include, for example, supply air, return air, and exhaust air. Ducts also deliver, most commonly as part of the supply air, ventilation air. As such, air ducts are one method of ensuring acceptable indoor air quality as well as thermal comfort. / A central heating and air conditioning system uses many components to heat or cool air. This warm or cool air is then transferred to different registers throughout the house via special, flexible, large-diameter pipes or ducts. The system of ducts throughout your house is often referred to as ductwork or ducting. / The wattmeter is an instrument for measuring the electric power or the supply rate of electrical energy in watts of any given circuit. Electromagnetic wattmeters are used for measurement of utility frequency and audio frequency power; other types are required for radio frequency measurements. |
