Definition of "Hamming Code" |
An error-detecting and error-correcting binary code, used in data transmission, that can detect all single- and double-bit errors and correct all single-bit errors. / In telecommunication, Hamming code are a family of linear error-correcting codes that generalize the Hamming-code invented by Richard Hamming in 1950. Hamming codes can detect up to two-bit errors or correct one-bit errors without detection of uncorrected errors. By contrast, the simple parity code cannot correct errors, and can detect only an odd number of bits in error. / The temperature at which a normally magnetic material goes through a magnetic transformation and becomes non-magnetic. / an encoding of binary numbers that permit error detection and correction first discovered by Richard Hamming at Bell Laboratories. |
