Definition of "Impulse Noise" |
Noise consisting of random occurrences of energy spikes having random amplitude and and spectral content. Note: Impulse noise in a data channel can be a definitive cause of data transmission errors. Noise generated in discrete energy bursts which has a characteristic wave shape. / Impulse noise is a category of noise which includes unwanted, almost instantaneous sharp sounds. Noises of the kind are usually caused by electromagnetic interference, scratches on the recording disks, and ill synchronization in digital recording and communication. / Zero offset is the deviation in output or reading from the ideal point at zero pressure. / refers to a noise process with infrequent, but very large, noise spikes; it is also known as shot noise or Salt and Pepper noise. The phrase “Impulsive noise” is frequently used to characterize a noise process as being fundamentally different from Gaussian white noise, in being derived from a probability density function with very heavy (long) tails. Applying impulsive noise to an image leaves most pixels unaffected, but with some pixels very bright or dark. |
