Definition of "Insertion Loss" |
This is the loss that occurs as signals pass through a passive device. Insertion loss occurs in all devices which do not amplify the signal. Also called "feed through loss". / The difference in power level between a device being inserted in the transmission path and, not being inserted in the transmission path. The loss resulting from the insertion of a device in a transmission line, expressed as the reciprocal of the ratio of the signal power delivered to that part of the line following the device to the signal power delivered to that same part before insertion. Insertion loss is usually expressed in dB. / In telecommunication, insertion loss is the loss of signal power resulting from the insertion of a device in a transmission line or optical fiber and is usually expressed in decibels. / Broadband over power lines is a method of power line communication that allows relatively high-speed digital data transmission over the public electric power distribution wiring. BPL uses higher frequencies, a wider frequency range and different technologies from other forms of power-line communications to provide high-rate communication over longer distances.
