Definition of "Lap Winding" |
An armature winding in which opposite ends of each coil are connected to adjoining segments of the commutator so that the windings overlap. / Lap winding and wave winding are both used in DC generators. The main differences is that lap winding is used for high current and low voltage machines while wave winding is used for low current and high voltage machines. / An ampere-hour or amp-hour is a unit of electric charge, with sub-units milliampere-hour and milliampere-second. One ampere-hour is equal to 3600 coulomb. / an armature winding on a DC machine in which the two ends of each coil are connected to adjacent bars on the commutator ring. The lap winding provides “P” parallel paths through the armature winding, where P is the number of poles in the machine. |
