Definition of "Linear" |
1. Having the property that the output is proportional to the input. E.g.: VOUT = k*VIN where k is a constant. 2. Analog; as in a "linear" circuit (as opposed to digital). / Having an output that varies in direct proportion to the input. / Having the property that the output is proportional to the input. / (1) a circuit or element in which the output spectrum is proportional through gain(s), attenuation(s) and delay(s) to the input spectrum, and in which no spectral shift, conversion or generation takes place. True linearity is seldom encountered in the real world, but often used in approximate descriptions, thereby promoting understanding and simplifying computation. |
