Definition of "Lyapunov, Alexandr M." |
(1857–1918) also transliterated as Liapunov or Liapunoff. Russian mathematician noted for his contributions to the stability of dynamical systems. His most influential work is titled The General Problem of the Stability of Motion, and it was published in 1892 by the Kharkov Mathematical Society. Lyapunov was a student of Chebyshev at St. Petersburg, and taught at the University of Kharkov from 1885 to 1901. He became academician in applied mathematics at the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences. |
