Definition of "Miller Oscillator" |
A crystal-controlled oscillator in which the crystal oscillates at its parallel resonant frequency. [Crystal Oscillator Manufacturers]. / the name is usually applied to crystal oscillators with one active device (usually a FET with the source AC grounded) where the crystal is connected between the gate and ground. The crystal is used like an inductor, another tunable parallel LC-circuit in the drain is used as an inductor as well, and the capacitance between the drain and gate (Miller capacitance hence the name) is used as a third reactance of LC oscillator. The circuit becomes similar to Hartley oscillator. |
