Definition of "Nucleation" |
Nucleation is the first step in the formation of many thermodynamic phases, such as a crystals and liquids. It is the process that determines how long you have to wait before the new crystal, liquid, etc, appears. If for example, liquid water is cooled below 0 °C then ice is thermodynamically more stable than the water, and so the water will tend to freeze to form ice. |
