Definition of "Polycrystalline" |
See 'Multicrystalline.' / A material that is solidified at such a rate that many small crystals form. The atoms within a single crystalline are symmetrically arranged, whereas the crystallines are jumbled together. These numerous grain boundaries reduce the device. / Polycrystalline materials are solids that are composed of many crystallites of varying size and orientation. The variation in direction can be random (called random texture) or directed, possibly due to growth and processing conditions. Fiber texture is an example of the latter. |
