Definition of "Potentiometer" |
A three terminal device with a wiper that is positioned along a resistive element, making it a voltage divider. / A variable resistor, used as a volume control or a position sensor in servo-systems, having a terminal connected to each end of a resistive element and a third terminal connected to a wiper contact. The output is a voltage that is variable depending upon the position of the wiper contact. The potentiometer is commonly referred to as a variable voltage divider. It, in effect, converts mechanical information into an electrical signal. Also refer to the Resistor Dictionary, or Potentiometer Characteristics, or Potentiometer Manufacturers. / Variable resistor in which a wiper sweeps from one end of the resistive element to the other, resulting in resistance that is proportional to the wiper's position. / A potentiometer measuring instrument is essentially a voltage divider used for measuring electric potential. the component is an implementation of the same principle, hence its name. Potentiometer. / A potentiometer, informally a pot, is a three-terminal resistor with a sliding or rotating contact that forms an adjustable voltage divider. If only two terminals are used, one end and the wiper, it acts as a variable resistor or rheostat. / Ground waves refer to the propagation of radio waves parallel to and adjacent to the surface of the Earth, following the curvature of the Earth. These surface waves are also known loosely as the Norton surface wave, the Zenneck surface wave, Sommerfeld waves, and gliding waves. They have contemporaneously been referred to as the THz surface plasmon. / a variable resistor with three terhree terminals. Mechanical turning of a shaft can be used to produce variable resistance and potential. Example: A volume control is usually a potentiometer. |
