Definition of "Sagnac interferometer" |
a common path interferometer devised by Georges Sagnac to measure the ether wind, then adapted as an optical gyroscope, and most recently utilized for hyperspectral imaging. A Sagnac interferometer is composed of two coils of optical fiber arranged so that light from a single source travels clockwise in one and counter clockwise in the other. |
