Definition of "Sampling Rate" |
An A/D converter converts an analog signal into a stream of digital numbers, each representing the analog signal's amplitude at a moment in time. Each number is called a "sample." The number sample per second is called the sampling rate, measured in samples per second. / The rate at which a signal is sampled, see Nyquist. The number of samples taken per unit time, i.e., the rate at which signals are sampled for subsequent use, such as for modulation, coding, and quantization. / In signal processing, sampling is the reduction of a continuous signal to a discrete signal. A common example is the conversion of a sound wave a continuous signal to a sequence of samples a discrete-time signal. / Block Check Character is a character added to a transmission block to facilitate error detection. In Longitudinal redundancy checking and cyclic redundancy checking, block check characters are computed for, and added to, each message block transmitted. / See sampling frequency. |
