Definition of "signal processing" |
Signal processing defines how a program handles various signals while it executes. A signal can report some exceptional behavior within the program such as division by zero, or a signal can report some asynchronous event outside the program such as someone striking an interactive attention key on a keyboard. / Data acquisition is the process of sampling signals that measure real world physical conditions and converting the resulting samples into digital numeric values that can be manipulated by a computer. Data acquisition systems typically convert analog waveforms into digital values for processing. / a generic term that refers to any technique that manipulates the signal, including but not limited to signal averaging, signal conditioning and signal recognition. When applied to images, it is normally referred to as image processing, the term signal processing usually being reserved for 1-D signals. |
