Definition of "Skin Effect" |
The tendency of current to stick to the outer layers of a conductor due to the presence of internal flux. The skin effect is more prominent at higher frequencies. / The tendency for alternating current to concentrate in the surface layer of a conductor, thereby restricting the current to a small part of the total cross-sectional area and increasing the resistance to the flow of current. The effect increases with frequency and serves to increase the effective resistance of the conductor. / (1) the tendency of an alternating current to concentrate in the areas of lowest impedance. |
