Definition of "Synchro" |
A small motor-like analog device that operates like a variable transformer. A synchro converts an angular position received as an input into an electrical output. The diagram shows the stator and rotor of a synchro; Schematic diagram of a synchro. / A rotary electromagnetic device generally used as an AC feedback signal generator, which indicates position. It can also be used as a reference signal generator. / also called a selsyn (for self synchronous).An AC servo machine used in pairs primarily for remote sensing and shaft positioning applications. Its construction is essentially that of a wound-rotor induction machine with either a single-phase or 3-phase rotor winding. Various stator and rotor interconnections are possible, depending on desired function and required torque. |
