Definition of "Token" |
In certain local-area-network protocols, a group of bits that serves as a symbol of authority, is passed among data stations, and is used to indicate the station that is temporarily in control of the transmission defined. Also see Definitions of Network Protocols. / In networking, a token is a special series of bits that travels around a token-ring network. / A portion of data that is passed from computer to computer in token-ring networks. When a computer has a token, it is capable of communicating to other computers and devices on the network.When referring to programming or batch files a token often refers to a segment or portion of a much larger piece of data. For example the date: 09/02/2007 could be broken into tokens: 09, 02, and 2007. Once these tokens have been gathered the programmer can use only portions of the data they want, for example, in the case of the date only the day and not the month or year. / An undesired radio signal that interferes with a radio communications signal causing extraneous noise and/or signal dropouts. / device that generates or assists in generation of one-time security code/passwords. |
