Definition of "topology preserving skeleton" |
result of an operation transforming a digital figure into a one-pixel wide skeleton having the same “topology,” in other words, whose connected components and holes correspond in a oneto- one way with those of the figure. This is generally achieved by homotopic thinning. The medial axis transform or distance skeleton preserves the topology of a figure (binary image) in the Euclidean case, but not in the digital case; the same defect arises with the morphological skeleton. |
