What is steady state and transient stability?
The ability of power system to bring back itself to its normal condition is called as power system stability. PSS largely depends on behaviour of synchronous machines after fault.
1) Steay state stability means the ability of power system to bring back itself to normal condition after experiencing a small fault such as during normal utility operation, they turn on/off capacitor banks, tap changers, reactors etc.
2) Transient stability means the ability of power system to bring back itself to its normal condition after experiencing a big fault such as breaking of TX lines, A major load rejection or addition etc.
