Widening of pavements on curves :- The
width of road on curves, is increased due to
following reasons 1. More sight distance on the sides of a pavement is required for safe driving. 2. On the curves drives find a difficulty to steer the vehicles along the centre line of the lane. 3. For overtaking another vehicle, more clearance for the safety and sense of security is desired. 4. The rear wheels of a vehicle on the curved portion of a pavement do not follow the front wheels, thus the sides of the vehicle do not remain parallel to the pavement edges, but these remains inclined. | |
