CHOICE OF SITE FOR STEAM POWER STATION

The following points should be considered while selecting the site of steam power station.Supply of fuel: The power station should be located near the coalmines to minimize the transportation cost.

Availability: A huge amount of water is required for the condenser. So the plant should be located at the bank of river or canal.

Transportation facility: Adequate transportation facility must be available for transportation of material and machinery.

Cost and type of land: Cost of land should be cheap and bearing capacity of the ground should be adequate so that the heavy equipment can be installed.

Nearness to load centres: The plant should be nearer to the load centres to reduce the transmission cost.

Distance from populated areas: Since huge amount of coal is burnt per day, it pollutes the environment. So it should be at a considerable distance from the populated areas
