Deflecting Torque (Td) of Dynamometer Type Instruments in Terms of Mutual Inductance A dynamometer type instrument has a fixed coil and a moving coil. Each coil has self inductance (L) and in addition, there is mutual inductance (M) between the two coils. The self inductances of the two coils are constant but the mutual inductance M depends upon the position of the moving coil i.e. upon deflection θ of the instrument. Let if = Current through the fixed coil (current coil) im = Current through the moving coil (voltage coil) Lf = Self-inductance of the fixed coil Lm = Self-inductance of the moving coil M = Mutual inductance between the two coils where If and Im are the r. m.s. values of alternating currents in fixed and moving coils respectively | |
