1. Magnitude of A.C. is variable
1. Magnitude of D.C. is constant
2. A.C. changes its direction regularly in the circuit
2. D.C. flows in one direction only.
3. Alternating voltages can be "Stepped up" or "Stepped down" with the help of a transformer.
3. D.C. supply cannot be stepped up or stepped down.
4. A.C. is used for running A.C. motors.
4. D.C. is used for running D.C. motors.
5. It is used for lighting purposes.
5. It is also used for lighting purposes.
6. A.C. can be used for heating purposes
6. D.C. can also be used for heating purposes.
7. A.C. is transmitted at very high voltage and very small current, therefore, losses are very small.
7. In D.C. supply system, losses are large.
