FILTER The output of a full-wave rectifier is also unidirectional and continuous but it is not steady. It is pulsating in character. In most of the electrical and electronic circuit, a steady (non-pulsating) current is required. It is, therefore, necessary to reduce the ripple of rectifier output to a minimum by keeping a way or smoothing out the AC components. The process of reducing the ripple of a rectifier output is called filtration. A device which passes DC component to the load and blocks the AC component of the rectifier is called a filter circuit. It is installed between the rectifier output and the load. It consists of a suitable combination of inductors and capacitors. There are the following types of filters:
