Power Factor Meters In an a. c. system, it is important to know the power factor because it affects the operation of the entire system. For instance, a low lagging p. f. leads to poor voltage regulation and low efficiency.The power factor in a **single phase circuit can be calculated (cos Φ = P/VI) from the readings of ammeter, voltmeter and wattmeter. However, such a method of calculations is neither convenient nor practical because the system power factor is changing continuously. The power factor of a circuit can be determined by a single instrument called power factor meter. The following two important power factor meters will be discussed :
