R.M.S. Value of Sinusoidal Current
The equation of the alternating current varying sinusoidally is given by ;

Consider an elementary strip of thickness dθ in first half-cycle of the squared current wave shown dotted in Fig. (a). Let i2 be the mid-ordinate of this strip.
Area of strip = i2dθ
Area of half-cycle of the squared wave
Because the current is squared, power is always positive.Since the value of sin2ωt varies between 0 and 1, its average value is 1/2 [See Fig. (b)].
