Shaded Pole Type

Figure (a) shows shaded pole type induction meter. Copper band creates the phase difference and splits the phase. The ac current or voltage proportional to it passing through the pole winding, produces an eddy current in the copper band. Flux or eddy current opposes the flux in the magnet core and a two-phase flux is created. The flux in the shaded portion lags the flux in the magnet core by an angle of about 500 The equation for torque is same as in the Ferraris type meter.
