PARAMETERS zparameters also known as open circuit impedance parameters. In zparameters, the input and output voltages for twoport network, i.e., V_{1} and V_{2}, are expressed in terms of the input and output currents. From Figure D.1, it can be written as: V_{1} = Z_{11}I_{1} + Z_{12}I_{2} ..........(1) and V_{2} = Z_{21}I_{1} + Z_{22}I_{2} ...........(2) From Eqs. (1) and (2), it can be written as: ............ (3) where Z_{11}, Z_{12}, Z_{21}, and Z_{22} are known as zparameters of the twoport network shown in Figure (1). Assuming I_{2} = 0, i.e., output port as open circuit, it can be written as: .............. (4) ................ (7) Z_{11 }and Z_{22 }are known as input and output impedances when output and input ports are opencircuited. Z_{12} and Z_{21} are known as reverse and forward transfer impedances when output and input ports are opencircuited. (For symmetry, Z_{12} = Z_{21} and for reciprocity Z_{12 }= Z_{22}.)
