Effects of Overcharging
Overcharging a lead-acid battery is very harmful due to the following reasons
(i) It results in the loss of water.
(ii) It results in shedding of active meterial due to excessive gassing.
(iii) It produces heat which adversely affects the life of the various components such as positive plates and separators.
(iv) The plates can buckle.
(v) The life of the battery is reduced
