Definition of "assembler" |
An assembler creates object code by translating combinations of mnemonics and syntax for operations and adressing modes into their numerical equivalents. This representation typically includes an opcode as well as other control bits. The assembler also calculates constant expressions and resolves symbolic names for memory locations and other entities. The use of symbolic references is a key feature of assemblers, saving tedious calculations and manual address updates after program modifications. / An Assembler is a program that takes basic computer instructions and converts them into a pattern of bits that the computer's processor can use to perform its basic operations. Some people call these instructions assembler language and others use the term assembly language. / Damping is an influence within or upon an oscillatory system that has the effect of reducing, restricting or preventing its oscillations. In physical systems, damping is produced by processes that dissipate the energy stored in the oscillation. Examples include Viscous drag in mechanical systems, resistance in electronic oscillators, and absorption and scattering of light in optical oscillators.
