Definition of "Gray Code" |
A positional binary number notation in which any two numbers whose difference is one is represented by expressions that are the same except in one place. Refer to the Gray Code listing for more information. / a code in which each of a sequence of code words differs by one bit from the preceding one, and the assigned value of each code word is one more than that of the preceding one. Such a code avoids glitches (i.e., sharp momentary unwanted spikes) when, in an electromechanical system, the sensors giving the codewords are imperfectly aligned.
